Initial Setup and Syncing

Download and Install: Get the Noteful app from the App Store on your Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Note that the Mac version requires a Mac with an Apple M1 chip or later and macOS 12.0 or later.

Purchase Noteful Pro: The Pro version is necessary for iCloud sync. The purchase is linked to your Apple ID and applies across all compatible devices.

Enable iCloud Sync:

Open Noteful and go to the settings/options menu.

Ensure iCloud Sync is turned on. This allows your notebooks and pages to update automatically across devices.

If the sync option doesn't appear, you may need to close and reopen the app or clear any items in the "Deleted Items" folder within the app. 

Basic Usage

Once set up, you can start organizing your notes:

Create/Import Notebooks: Click the plus (+) button (usually in the bottom right corner) to create a new notebook or import a PDF/MS Office file (e.g., planners, textbooks, slides).

Organize with Tags: Noteful uses a flexible tagging system. You can add #tags anywhere in your notes, which is more versatile than a traditional folder structure.

Customize Toolbar: The main toolbar (default on the left side) can be moved to the top, bottom, or right side via the "More Options" menu in the top-right corner. You can also customize the specific tools (pen, highlighter, text, lasso, etc.) available in the toolbar by tapping and holding the plus button within the toolbar itself.

While the Noteful experience is often optimized for Apple Pencil input on iPad, the Mac version offers robust functionality: 

Typing Notes: Use the Text tool to type notes. The Mac version supports standard keyboard shortcuts like Cmd + B for bolding and Cmd + U for underlining.

PDF Markup: Import and annotate PDFs and other documents.

Layers: Add annotations on separate layers, allowing you to hide or show them independently without altering the original content.

Split View: Use macOS's Split View feature to multitask with Noteful and other applications simultaneously.

To install Noteful on a Mac (with Apple Silicon M1 or later), download it from the App Store on your Mac, then find and drag your digital planners (PDFs) directly into the app's folder system using Finder, or use the '+' button to import them, allowing for easy organization, note-taking, and annotation within your hyperlinked planners. 

1. Install Noteful

Check Compatibility: Ensure you have a Mac with an Apple M1 chip or later and macOS 12.0 or newer, as Noteful requires this for the native app.

Download from App Store: Search for "Noteful: Notes & PDF Markup" in the Mac App Store and install it. 

2. Import Your Digital Planners/Notebooks 

Using Finder (Drag & Drop):

Locate your digital planner (usually a PDF file) in Finder on your Mac.

Open Noteful and find your notebook folders in the left pane.

Drag the PDF file from Finder and drop it directly into the desired folder within Noteful.

Using the '+' Button (Import File):

In Noteful's main dashboard, click the plus icon (+) in the bottom right corner.

Select "Import File" or similar.

Navigate to your planner file and click "Open".

For ZIP Files: If your planner is in a ZIP file, tap the ZIP file in your Downloads folder to unzip it first, then import the resulting PDF planner into Noteful. 

3. Start Using Your Planner

Once imported, the hyperlinked planner will appear as a notebook in Noteful's sidebar.

Click the plus icon (+) in the bottom right to create new notebooks or add pages.

Use the tools in the sidebar (pen, highlighter, lasso) to write, draw, and edit within your planner.
